Clinic opening

Inje University Ilsan Paik Hospital's Blood Transfusion Center is equipped with excellent medical technology and medical equipment in line with the global trend of blood-free treatment and the earnest expectations of patients who want blood-free treatment due to religious beliefs and fear of transfusion side effects such as infection or AIDS. We are doing our best to become a more trusted Ilsan Paik Hospital.

Now, blood-free treatment has already grown into a specialized field of modern medicine in developed countries and has greatly shortened the treatment and recovery period of diseases. Ilsan Paik Hospital's Blood Transfusion Center, which has long recognized these advantages, has been treating patients by introducing the concept of bloodless blood since 2001.

1. What is blood-free treatment?

We provide cutting-edge medical techniques to minimize bleeding that occurs during the treatment of internal and surgical diseases and to maximize blood production within the body.

2. Clinical experience regarding blood transfusion care

Inje University Ilsan Paik Hospital Blood Transfusion Center uses facilities and techniques related to blood transfusion. We have published many clinical experiences and papers on the latest equipment and acute equal volume dilution methods, such as an autologous blood recovery device that can be used in children as well as the FMS (Fluid Management System), which enables body temperature maintenance and appropriate fluid treatment during acute equal volume blood dilution.

Ilsan Paik Hospital's Blood Transfusion Center has the latest equipment, knowledge, and abundant clinical experience to treat patients who do not wish to receive blood transfusions.

3. Purpose of blood-free treatment

(1) Prevention of diseases that can be caused by blood transfusion, such as hepatitis or AIDS

(2) Help for patients who refuse blood transfusions due to religious beliefs

(3) Blood supply problems are increasing due to a decrease in blood donations and an increase in blood imports, so it is necessary to develop medical technology that does not require blood transfusion.

(4) By minimizing bleeding, it is possible to preserve oxygen carrying capacity and prevent failure of important organs without impeding blood circulation.

(5) Prevent changes in immune function due to blood transfusion

(6) By using minimally invasive surgical techniques (laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, endoscopy, etc.), post-operative pain is minimal and scarring is minimal. (7) The hospitalization period is shortened, which reduces costs and allows for a quick transition to normal daily life.

4. Advantages of blood-free treatment at Ilsan Paik Hospital

- Promotion of red blood cell production before surgery (promotion of hematopoiesis)

- Maximizing and monitoring oxygen supply during surgery

- Minimization of blood loss during surgery (blood dilution, hemostasis)

- Reuse of blood loss during surgery (blood recovery)

- Management of oxygen amount in blood

- Continuous administration of hematopoietic agents

- Proper fluid supply

- Minimization of test volume when testing using blood

- Implementation of high concentration oxygen therapy

- Specification of standards for blood transfusion (application of low standards)

- Post-surgery nutritional status management

6. Blood-free treatment techniques and equipment

- Minimally invasive surgery center operation: A method to minimize the amount of bleeding that occurs during open surgery

- Autologous blood recovery device (cell saver): Collects and recirculates the patient's blood that flows out during adult and pediatric surgery.

- Careful hemostasis and rapid surgery: This is possible with skillful techniques derived from extensive experience.

- Laser/argon beam coagulation device: Applied to the surgical site to reduce bleeding during surgery.

- Pulse oximeter: Monitors oxygen saturation in the patient's body during surgery.

- Synthetic erythropoietin (EPO: Erythropietin): Projected before surgery to promote red blood cell production.

- Equal volume hemodilution: Used with other vasodilators to reduce blood viscosity during surgery.

- Introduction of intravenous iron supplementation method (outpatient treatment)

- Hemostatic agents: Comprehensive use of hemostatic agents

- Other advanced bloodless surgical techniques

Hospital visit procedure

1) Outpatient treatment information and consultation reservation

After medical consultation, provide treatment guidance to the blood-free medical staff (a dedicated coordinator can assist with all tasks such as treatment reservations and hospitalization procedures) 2) When registering at the medical department, please inform the counter staff that you are a patient who wishes to receive blood-free blood transfusion. (Purpose of providing patient convenience by registering “no blood transfusion” on the computer network)

※ Jehovah's Witnesses (present medical guidelines and power of attorney)

3) If you feel uncomfortable or have any questions during outpatient or inpatient treatment, please visit or call the Non-Blood Transfusion Center and we will do our best to provide as much convenience as possible for the patient.

patient mark

Establishment of a blood-free center mark on the EMR electronic chart, attachment of a blood-free sticker on the name card of hospitalized patients, and a blood-free bracelet.
