Neurosurgery is a field of study that deals with diseases that occur in the nervous system of the entire body. It mainly deals with diseases in a wide range of areas of the human body, including nerves, such as brain and spinal tumors, cerebrovascular diseases, spinal nerve diseases, functional brain diseases, and peripheral nerve diseases. This is a field that treats these diseases using cutting-edge surgical techniques such as microscopic surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and endoscopic surgery. In addition, it is a field that treats various emergency diseases such as head/spine trauma that require emergency treatment.

The Department of Neurosurgery at Inje University Ilsan Paik Hospital began operations in March 1999, and annually performs more than 25,000 outpatient treatments, 150 brain and spine radiosurgeries, and more than 1,000 major surgeries. The nervous system connected to the brain is extremely sensitive and has a complex and delicate structure, so the Department of Neurosurgery at Ilsan Paik Hospital provides the best medical services by mobilizing high technology and experience and cutting-edge equipment.

In the Department of Neurosurgery at Ilsan Paik Hospital, each specialized professor is organized by specialty and treats patients.

Trends in cerebrovascular disease

With the recent aging population, cerebrovascular disease continues to increase and has been a major cause of death for a long time. In the cerebrovascular field, we deal with cerebral arteriovenous malformations and moyamoya disease, including cerebral aneurysms that occur in cerebral blood vessels. In particular, cerebral aneurysm disease is a disease with a high mortality rate due to rupture. With the recent development of medical technology, it has become possible to treat it without craniotomy through endovascular surgery, which is coil embolization, and we are treating many patients at this hospital.

According to data from the HIRA, the number of patients with cerebral aneurysms is increasing very rapidly, and many university hospital neurosurgery departments are investing in cerebrovascular diseases.

In the case of cerebral aneurysm, a representative cerebrovascular disease, statistics show that 1 in 200 people have it, and in the case of rupture, 1 in 10,000 people, which means that in the population of Goyang City, more than 100 people have ruptured cerebral aneurysm every year. Currently, our hospital treats approximately 100 patients each year, 30-40 with ruptured aneurysms and 50-60 with unruptured aneurysms.

Introduction to Cerebrovascular Surgery and Cerebrovascular Endovascular Surgery Center

The Cerebrovascular Surgery and Cerebrovascular Endovascular Surgery Center performs both microsurgery and endovascular surgery using craniotomy. In addition to the use of existing cutting-edge blood vessel testing equipment, more accurate diagnosis and prompt treatment have become possible through the introduction of additional cutting-edge blood vessel testing equipment. In addition, we are operating a “24-hour cerebrovascular team” by securing excellent professors specializing in cerebrovascular diseases, and establishing accurate diagnoses and prompt treatment plans through direct contact with 119 rescue teams, other hospitals, and dedicated professors.

Center's Goals

Becoming a central cerebrovascular disease surgery center in Goyang-si, Paju and Gimpo areas

Advanced treatment using cutting-edge equipment

Research and research into the latest treatments for cerebrovascular diseases
