Ilsan Baek Hospital introduces the latest robotic surgery system ‘Da Vinci 5’

Introducing Da Vinci 5 and cutting-edge medical devices linked to it for the first time in Gyeonggi Province

Ilsan Baek Hospital of Inje University (Director Choi Won-ju) will introduce the latest robotic surgery system ‘Da Vinci 5’ for the first time in Gyeonggi Province and the fourth time in Korea on March 24.

In particular, the Da Vinci 5 system being introduced this time is a model that newly applies force feedback technology, which allows medical staff to accurately recognize the force that surgical tools push and pull on tissues, and can measure the sensitivity of force even during surgery, reducing the force applied to tissues. This helps to increase the precision and safety of surgery, such as reducing trauma that may occur to tissues.

In addition, the console designed for immersion, such as curved armrests and viewers, provides a more comfortable surgical environment by supporting the surgeon with an expanded range of motion and ergonomic settings, and increases the visual freedom of the console viewer, allowing medical staff to focus more on the surgery.

Professor Shin Yong-chan (Surgery), head of the Robotic Surgery Center, said, “We have introduced the latest robotic surgical equipment that overcomes the shortcomings of the past and the most advanced medical equipment linked to it for the first time in the region, so we can provide patients with more advanced surgical medical services.” He added, “We can now perform safer and more precise surgeries for diseases in various fields.”

Minimally invasive surgery using robotic surgical equipment

Minimally invasive surgery refers to surgery in which the lesion is operated in the same way as open surgery, but the incision area of the abdominal wall is minimized. The cutting edge of minimally invasive surgery techniques is robotic surgery using the da Vinci robotic surgical system. Ilsan Paik Hospital will introduce the latest robotic surgical system, da Vinci 5, in March 2025, opening the era of minimally invasive surgery using robotic surgical equipment.

The surgical robot da Vinci performs surgery using a robotic arm that moves like a human wrist in a three-dimensional field of view. This robotic arm is a surgical instrument that eliminates hand tremors and enables stable and precise surgery that was not possible with conventional laparoscopic surgery. Therefore, surgery using robotic surgical equipment It reduces not only bleeding but also postoperative pain and the risk of infection, enabling faster recovery and discharge than conventional surgical methods.

Surgery using robotic surgical equipment is being applied to many benign and malignant diseases in the departments of surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, urology, and otolaryngology, and the scope will gradually expand as surgical techniques using robotic equipment develop. Accordingly, in order to provide the best surgical treatment to patients who visit Ilsan Paik Hospital in need of surgery in the future, minimally invasive surgery experts from each department have gathered to establish a robotic surgery center. Ilsan Paik Hospital Robotic Surgery Center will strive to provide the best treatment to patients through more precise, faster, and safer minimally invasive surgery.
